No Nonsense Guide to Starting iOS Development

So you want to change the (medical) world


Before we get started, there's a two arguably small requirements that are detailed below.

Note: This is a living post that I'll update every now and then.


The boring stuff


Before we can start coding the next content management system for the next school year, we first have to create an Apple Developer account. You can do so at https://developer.apple.com/register/index.action.



At this point, we are registering for the Apple Developer Program and not the iOS Developer Program. The iOS Developer Program has an annual $99 fee and will allow you to test your app on an actual device as opposed to the built in simulator (more on this later). It also allows you to submit your app to the App Store. For now, we just need access to the software to develop an iOS app, which is available through the Apple Developer Program.

Now give me what I need


We first have to download the proper tools to develop with. To develop for iOS devices, we will need to install Xcode, which is the environment you will be developing in. You can grab Xcode at https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/xcode/id497799835?ls=1&mt=12 or search for it in the Mac App Store. Just a heads up, it's a 2.5 GB download.



Getting familiar

Possibly will be completed sometime after the anatomy exam.

Now the fun begins
